Senior Flight Dynamics Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Flight Dynamics Engineer at Astroscale, you will drive the evolution of trajectory planning and optimisation for a variety of orbital missions. You will create intuitive interfaces that give the Operations team seamless access to spacecraft environment data, including interactions with nearby objects.

Key responsibilities

• Define and review flight‑dynamics requirements for Astroscale missions.
• Act as the primary liaison with external contractors developing flight‑dynamics products.
• Contribute to the architecture design of the Flight Dynamics group.
• Develop mathematically intensive software modules for in‑house flight‑dynamics tools.
• Manage space‑traffic processes: conjunction warnings, collision‑avoidance manoeuvre planning, execution and evaluation.
• Plan, support, and assess orbital and attitude manoeuvres.
• Support ground‑segment concept of operations and interface with the GNC team.
• Participate in mission analysis, technical documentation reviews, and real‑time operations.
• Develop and maintain nominal and contingency mission procedures, both automated and manual.
• Investigate spacecraft anomalies and contribute to resolution.
• Take part in 24/7 shift and on‑call rotations to ensure continuous safe operations.

Required profile

• University degree in aeronautics, computer science, software engineering, mathematics or a related scientific discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of commercial space flight‑dynamics experience.
• Proven ability to work across diverse orbital regimes and mission scenarios, including rendezvous, docking and separation.
• Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary, globally distributed teams.
