Senior HR Manager - Education

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior HR Manager to act as Deputy Head of HR for a values‑led education organisation. The role will be based in Stanmore (or alternatively Bishop’s Stortford or Leicester) and will support the Head of HR in delivering a proactive people service across the whole group.

Key responsibilities

• Deputise for the Head of HR and ensure high‑quality HR service delivery.
• Provide expert advice on complex employee‑relations cases, including discipline, grievance, absence and wellbeing matters.
• Lead safer recruitment processes, safeguarding checks and statutory compliance.
• Support talent management activities such as recruitment, onboarding, retention, succession planning and agency management.
• Coach, develop and manage the HR team, shaping structure and performance.
• Review, update and improve HR policies, templates, systems and procedures.
• Build effective relationships with senior leaders, schools, partners, external providers and trade unions.

Required profile

• Proven senior HR leadership experience, preferably in education or a similar sector.
• Strong knowledge of UK employment law and safeguarding requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to handle complex employee‑relations cases and drive organisational change.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Collaborative, values‑driven approach with a focus on continuous improvement.
