Senior Interaction Designer

About the role

FDM Group is seeking a Senior Interaction Designer to join a public‑sector client on a six‑month contract, with strong potential for extension. The role is hybrid and can be based in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool or London. You will lead the design of complex digital services, ensuring they are accessible, inclusive and aligned with user needs.

Key responsibilities

• Lead interaction design across multi‑disciplinary agile teams, shaping end‑to‑end user journeys.
• Collaborate with service managers, programme teams and stakeholders to design, test and iterate solutions based on user feedback and evidence.
• Use research, analytics and user insight to make evidence‑based design decisions.
• Create and test prototypes, patterns and components from low‑fidelity concepts to developer‑ready designs.
• Facilitate workshops, design critiques and stakeholder sessions to build consensus and influence direction.

Required profile

• Extensive experience designing user flows, interaction patterns and interface behaviours for complex digital services.
• Strong understanding of user‑centred design principles, accessibility standards and the Government Service Standard.
• Proven ability to use research, analytics and data to develop and enhance design solutions.
• Significant experience working in agile, multidisciplinary teams and influencing product decisions.
• Experience mentoring designers and managing senior stakeholder relationships.

• Creating developer‑ready designs and reusable design patterns.
