Senior Java Engineer

About the role

Join a newly formed Service Modernisation & AI team that is driving AI‑first software development in financial services. This hands‑on position focuses on modernising high‑impact legacy Java services while building AI‑powered engineering workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Modernise critical legacy Java services using AI‑driven analysis and refactoring.
• Apply migration patterns such as the strangler‑fig approach to deliver clean, modern APIs.
• Ship performance and reliability improvements in fast cycles with measurable gains.
• Build AI‑powered tooling, including MCP servers and AI‑assisted CI/CD pipelines.
• Demonstrate how AI transforms developer productivity and code quality.

Required profile

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience with Java.
• Proven experience modernising production systems at scale.
• Hands‑on use of AI development tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, LLMs).
• Experience with MCP, AI automation, or agentic AI systems.
• Strong understanding of microservices and API design.
• Willingness to work three days per week onsite in London (hybrid model).
