Senior Library Assistant (Part-time, Term-time Only)

About the role

Join the Bodleian Law Library to deliver an outstanding evening service for students, researchers and visitors. You will supervise a small evening team, provide front‑line reader support and ensure smooth library closing procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the evening team (Monday‑Wednesday, 19:00‑22:00) during Michaelmas, Hilary and Trinity terms.
• Manage the enquiry desk and assist readers with library resources and IT.
• Oversee library closing procedures and maintain a safe, efficient environment.
• Contribute to staff training and ensure service standards are consistently followed.
• Handle lifting, moving and carrying of books and journals as required.

Required profile

• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong confidence using IT systems.
• Ability to supervise colleagues calmly under pressure.
• Reliable, organised and able to work accurately with minimal supervision.
• Previous experience in reader services, library systems or staff training is an advantage.
