Senior Machine Learning Manager – Borrowing

About the role

Monzo is looking for a senior leader to shape the future of its Borrowing business. You will guide a high‑calibre team of ML scientists, define the ML roadmap for UK growth, new customer segments and European expansion, and drive improvements across underwriting, pricing and lifecycle decisioning.

Key responsibilities

• Own the Borrowing ML roadmap for UK optimisation, new segments and EU expansion.
• Accelerate model improvement through new data sources, feature engineering and faster iteration.
• Lead the integration of Open Banking, transaction intelligence and external data into credit decisioning.
• Build portable underwriting capabilities across products, segments and markets.
• Hire, mentor and develop a high‑performing ML team.
• Raise standards for model quality, governance, tooling and delivery speed.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading senior ML or data science teams in a fast‑moving environment.
• Deep understanding of credit underwriting, pricing and risk modelling.
• Strategic thinker able to balance short‑term commercial impact with long‑term capability building.
• Strong collaborator who can influence product, engineering, data and risk stakeholders.
