Senior Manager, Cross-Border Tax & Customs

About the role

Outpost is building the back‑office infrastructure that lets brands sell physical goods globally. As Senior Manager, Cross‑Border Tax & Customs you will own the tax and compliance layer for cross‑border e‑commerce, covering customs duties, import VAT, HS classification, landed‑cost calculation and duty recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Own customs duty and import VAT compliance across all markets and manage import VAT registrations and filings.
• Build and maintain HS classification frameworks for merchant product catalogs and improve AI‑powered classification tools.
• Design and implement landed‑cost calculation logic at checkout, ensuring accuracy for DDP and DAP models.
• Advise on de‑minimis thresholds, IOSS/UK low‑value schemes and develop duty‑drawback processes for returns.
• Support new market expansion by assessing duty and VAT requirements, advising on entity structure and coordinating with external advisors.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of customs duties, tariffs, import VAT and HS classification, with experience in cross‑border e‑commerce or logistics.
• Proven ability to design and operationalise processes such as duty drawback, import VAT recovery and landed‑cost routing.
• Comfort with ambiguous, fast‑moving startup environments and a bias for building systems rather than only advising.
• Experience with IOSS, UK low‑value schemes or similar import simplification programs.
