Job description

About the role

The company is a market‑leading defence and aerospace organisation seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead electrical harness design through to production. Based in Ampthill, the role focuses on new product introduction and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead electrical/harness development from design to factory floor.
  • Drive New Product Introduction (NPI) projects from prototype to full production release.
  • Optimise manufacturing processes to improve quality, efficiency and cost.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, process controls and control plans.

Required profile

  • Degree in Manufacturing, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience in manufacturing engineering within aerospace, defence, automotive or similarly regulated industry.
  • Proven track record leading NPI activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, ESD control and configuration management.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous‑improvement qualification.

Required skills

  • Electrical harness manufacturing processes: crimping, braiding, potting, soldering, cable routing, connector assembly and backshell integration.
  • Proficiency with CAD systems and manufacturing documentation tools.
  • Experience using ERP and MRP systems in a production environment.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, APQP, PFMEA and control‑plan development.
  • Familiarity with automated wire processing and harness test systems.

  • Permanent contract based in Ampthill.
  • Competitive salary of approximately £60,000 per year.
