Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Consultant (London)

About the role

We are partnering with a leading product‑innovation consultancy to find a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who will act as a senior consultant on complex medical and consumer product projects. The role involves taking concepts from early design through to full manufacturing, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

Key responsibilities

• Lead client communication, define project briefs and manage schedules, budgets and deliverables.
• Develop innovative mechanical concepts, assess feasibility and produce robust designs using 3D CAD, FEA/CFD and mathematical modelling.
• Perform system‑level engineering across structures, mechanisms, thermo‑fluids and manufacturing processes.
• Create detailed manufacturing specifications, engineering drawings and tolerance analyses.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant quality, safety and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Degree (1st or 2:1) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of engineering project experience, preferably within a consultancy environment.
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage client relationships.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.

Required skills

• SolidWorks and advanced 3D CAD modelling.
• FEA and CFD simulation, tolerance analysis.
• Knowledge of machining, moulding, fabrication, casting and assembly processes.
• Experience with structural analysis, mechanisms and fluid systems.
• Electronics/firmware integration exposure, including Arduino and Python.
• Hands‑on prototyping, testing and assembly.
