Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer

About the Role

As a Mechanical Systems Engineer, you will provide critical engineering support for Hitachi Rail's entire UK fleet, acting as a technical cornerstone for our maintenance and operational excellence.

Main Responsibilities

• Provide high-level mechanical engineering support for all Hitachi Rail train fleets across the UK.
• Conduct detailed root cause analyses (RCA) and develop effective short-term and long-term corrective actions.
• Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assigned mechanical systems, ensuring technical integrity.
• Manage engineering changes and draft comprehensive technical reports.
• Collaborate with Japanese design and manufacturing teams to facilitate the transfer of best practices and innovative technologies.
• Liaise with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and suppliers to maintain high standards.
• Contribute to the development of maintenance procedures, policies, and the optimization of maintenance regimes.
• Ensure strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) requirements.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience in mechanical engineering, ideally within the rail, aerospace, or heavy automotive sectors.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to solve complex technical problems through root cause investigation.
• Excellent communication skills for collaborating with international teams (Japan) and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to travel occasionally across the UK network.
