Senior ML Engineer

About the role

WhyHireWrong? is a VC‑backed AI/ML startup in West London building a novel foundation model for fully automated, unsupervised software delivery in embedded control systems. We are looking for a senior machine‑learning engineer to own the end‑to‑end development of this large‑scale model, from research through production.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and ship a large‑scale foundation model from 0 to 1, handling research, engineering and production deployment.
• Develop custom CUDA kernels when existing libraries do not meet performance requirements.
• Architect and scale distributed training and inference pipelines on cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure).
• Build and operate ML systems that meet strict production SLOs, ensuring models are reliable in real‑world use.
• Create internal tooling and infrastructure to accelerate the team’s output.
• Operate in a fast‑moving, ambiguous environment and define the next technical priorities.

Required profile

• Proven experience shipping a large‑scale foundation model in a high‑growth AI/ML startup or top‑tier research lab, with production impact.
• Hands‑on expertise in writing custom CUDA C/C++ kernels.
• Demonstrated ability to scale distributed training or inference pipelines on cloud infrastructure.
• Ownership of ML systems with strict production SLOs/SLAs, not just research prototypes.
