About the role
We are seeking a Senior Motor Trade Underwriter to join a leading insurer’s regional team covering the Midlands, North and Scotland. The role offers the chance to manage a dynamic portfolio of commercial motor trade risks, work closely with brokers and drive business growth.
Key responsibilities
- Profitably underwrite bespoke commercial motor trade risks within agreed strategy, appetite and authority limits.
- Serve as the development relationship underwriter for a panel of mid‑market brokers, building and maintaining strong partnerships.
- Develop the regional commercial lines portfolio by engaging new and existing broker relationships.
- Achieve growth targets through proactive prospecting, sales optimisation and retention activities.
- Maintain accurate audit trails using internal systems and procedures.
- Provide technical guidance and support to colleagues, handling referrals as required.
- Stay up‑to‑date with market developments, regional broking landscape, legislation and legal changes.
- Participate in ad‑hoc tasks to ensure smooth operation of the region and the wider motor trade business.
- Deliver consistently high service levels to internal and external customers.
Required profile
- Strong, decisive approach to underwriting motor trade risks with proven trading and prospecting skills.
- Excellent communication and influencing abilities.
- Ability to work independently in broker offices and collaboratively within a team.
- Proactive, motivated and adaptable, able to perform under pressure while maintaining underwriting discipline.
- Minimum CII Certificate required; CII Diploma or progress towards it preferred.
- Experience underwriting and trading commercial motor products.
- Proven relationship‑management experience with mid‑market brokers.
- Good problem‑solving skills and a track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
