Senior Optical Research Scientist

About the role

At CoMind we are developing a non‑invasive neuromonitoring technology that will usher in a new era of clinical brain monitoring. You will help create cutting‑edge technologies that improve diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders, ultimately saving lives worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and execute laboratory, phantom, benchtop and in‑vivo testing of new optical neuromonitoring systems.
• Own experimental workstreams from protocol development through data acquisition, analysis, documentation and communication of results.
• Develop and validate tissue‑mimicking phantoms and experimental setups for optical system performance assessment.
• Perform in‑vivo optical measurements on healthy volunteers, ensuring signal quality and interpreting physiological responses.
• Generate high‑quality datasets to support product development, system validation and machine‑learning activities.
• Investigate device performance, signal quality, limitations and failure modes using structured troubleshooting.
• Summarise findings in technical reports and present results to research, product, engineering, clinical and leadership teams.

Required profile

• Background in physics, medical physics, biomedical engineering, optical engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of laboratory testing and development of physiological or biomedical measurement systems.
• Strong hands‑on experience with experimental or prototype technologies, including setup, troubleshooting and data quality assessment.
• Experience with in‑vivo physiological signal acquisition, preferably using optical or optoelectronic systems.
• Understanding of tissue optics, optical signal acquisition and physiological measurement principles.
