Senior Overhead Line Design Engineer (Hybrid/Remote)

About the role

ARCA Resourcing is seeking a senior engineer to take technical ownership of overhead line (OHL) design projects across 132 kV–400 kV transmission and distribution networks in the UK. The role combines hands‑on design delivery, governance, and mentorship of junior engineers within a fast‑growing specialist consultancy.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of detailed OHL design packages, including route & profile design, sag & tension calculations, conductor selection and clearance analysis.
• Produce and review line schedules, plan & profile drawings, foundation layouts and technical reports.
• Ensure compliance with ESQCR, CDM, National Grid and relevant BS/EN/IEC standards.
• Contribute to design reviews, risk assessments, project planning and tender support.
• Maintain robust check/approve workflows and drive continuous improvement of modelling tools and processes.
• Manage and mentor junior designers, support onboarding and technical training (PLS‑CADD / PLS‑Tower).

Required profile

• Degree or HNC/HND in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• 7‑10+ years of experience in overhead line design for 132 kV‑400 kV systems.
• Strong knowledge of OHL structures, mechanical loading and clearance requirements.
• Experience working within National Grid or UK DNO environments is desirable.

Required skills

• Proficiency in PLS‑CADD and PLS‑Tower (or equivalent software).
• Ability to produce and review full design packages, line schedules and technical drawings.
• Familiarity with ESQCR, CDM, National Grid standards and BS/EN/IEC specifications.
