Senior Payroll Specialist

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Payroll Specialist to manage end‑to‑end payroll for a diverse client portfolio. The role is office‑based in Thornton‑Cleveleys and offers the choice of full‑time or part‑time hours within a supportive, client‑focused practice.

Key responsibilities

• Process weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for multiple clients.
• Administer auto‑enrolment pensions and ensure ongoing compliance.
• Calculate and process statutory payments such as SSP, SMP and SPP.
• Prepare and submit RTI returns to HMRC.
• Complete year‑end activities including P60s and P11Ds.
• Respond to payroll queries from clients and employees.
• Liaise with HMRC and pension providers as required.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and stay updated with legislation.
• Support the wider payroll team with general administrative duties.

Required profile

• Previous end‑to‑end payroll experience, preferably within an accountancy practice or payroll bureau.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and ability to meet strict deadlines.
• Professional, client‑focused communication style.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.

Required skills

• BrightPay payroll software (experience advantageous).
