Senior Plant Engineer – Heat Network Operations

About the role

Hemiko is seeking a Senior Plant Engineer to deliver operation and maintenance services across its fleet of heat networks. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the role involves mechanical PPMs, reactive call‑outs, planned repairs and project work to improve reliability and efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Work under the direct supervision of the Technical Manager.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on pumps, actuators, plate heat exchangers, pressurisation units and degassers.
• Repair and reinstate commercial plant equipment and associated pipework.
• Respond to reactive call‑outs to restore heat and resolve plant failures, participating in an on‑call rota (one week in four).
• Investigate root causes of plant failures and implement corrective actions.
• Manage site‑based project work and develop scopes of work for plant remediation.
• Ensure safe isolation of mechanical and electrical equipment before work.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete online work orders.

Required profile

• Minimum three years’ experience as a Commercial Plant Engineer or in a similar role, preferably in plant rooms larger than 1 MW.
• Organised, self‑motivated and able to work autonomously while supporting the team.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with internal teams and external clients.
• Commitment to safety and a positive contribution to the company’s culture.

Required skills

• NVQ Level 2‑3 in Gas or Plumbing.
• Experience maintaining commercial gas plant, pumps, valves and strainers.
• Ability to read P&IDs and mechanical schematics.
• Basic electrical competency and safe isolation procedures.
• Full UK driving licence (valid for at least 12 months).
