Senior Practice Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a senior practice accountant to manage a portfolio of ambitious SME clients in Milton Keynes. The role is client‑facing, combines accounting, tax and advisory work and uses Xero and other cloud tools. You will work in a hybrid setting, collaborating with the leadership team and supervising junior staff.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse portfolio of SME clients across multiple industries.
• Provide financial insight, budgeting, cash‑flow forecasting and management reporting.
• Prepare and review statutory accounts under FRS 102/FRS 105 and corporation tax computations (CT600).
• Review and submit VAT returns and liaise with HMRC, Companies House and banks.
• Identify and implement improvements to client systems, processes and reporting.
• Supervise and review the work of junior team members.

Required profile

• Qualified accountant with several years of practice experience.
• Commercially minded and comfortable working directly with founders and business owners.
• Strong client‑relationship skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Experience supervising junior staff.

Required skills

• Xero and other cloud accounting software.
• FRS 102 and FRS 105 statutory accounting standards.
• Corporation tax computations and CT600 filing.
• VAT return preparation and submission.
• Management accounts, budgeting and cash‑flow forecasting.
• Variance analysis and financial reporting.
