Senior Practice Accountant

About the role

This senior practice accountant position offers immediate leadership responsibility within an established independent accountancy practice in Wiltshire. You will work directly with the owner, shaping day‑to‑day operations, raising service standards, and mentoring a tight‑knit team serving a loyal SME client base.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse portfolio of SME clients, delivering accounts, advisory and review work.
• Lead, develop and hold the team to clear performance standards.
• Oversee workflow, deadlines, output quality and client experience on a daily basis.
• Identify and resolve issues early, preventing escalation.
• Partner with the owner on operational decisions, culture and long‑term strategy.
• Drive process improvements and support the practice’s growth.

Required profile

• Fully qualified ACA or ACCA with solid post‑qualification practice experience.
• Proven people‑management experience, having led a team rather than only supervised juniors.
• Strong technical knowledge of UK SME accounts and advisory work.
• Ability to have difficult conversations calmly and without drama.
• Ready to take on real leadership now, not in a few years.
