Senior Project Officer – Fieldwork (Andover)

About the role
Lead the archaeological direction and site management of Cotswold Archaeology’s most prestigious fieldwork projects, ensuring performance targets are met or exceeded and guaranteeing high‑quality recording and understanding.
Key responsibilities
- Manage delivery of projects to time, budget, quality and health‑and‑safety requirements as the lead officer on site.
- Develop and coach staff, initiating training and improving practices.
- Assure the quality of archaeological understanding and oversee compilation of archives to required standards.
- Author reports to publication standard and provide regular progress updates to Project Managers.
- Prepare risk assessments, ensure compliance with health‑and‑safety policy, and manage vehicles, plant and equipment.
Required profile
- Extensive knowledge of British archaeology across all periods and experience supervising large fieldwork and desk‑based projects.
- Strong understanding of commercial archaeology business needs, budgets and timescales.
- Proven ability to write reports to publication standard and to organise, motivate and appraise staff.
- Good working knowledge of relevant health‑and‑safety legislation and ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
Required skills
- Valid CSCS Health and Safety Card (or ability to pass the CITB HS&E Operatives/Managers test).
- Full driving licence with willingness and ability to drive company 4x4s and Transit Vans.
