Senior Projects Executive – Competitions (12‑Month Maternity Cover)

About the role

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is seeking a Senior Projects Executive to lead its engineering competitions on a 12‑month maternity cover. This full‑time, hybrid position will oversee the complete lifecycle of flagship events such as Formula Student, ensuring they meet strategic goals and high‑quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and deliver the annual Formula Student competition from concept to live event.
• Manage project budgets, timelines and resources while monitoring performance against targets.
• Lead on‑site event operations, including venue management, supplier contracts, registrations and volunteer coordination.
• Support additional competitions and operational projects as required.
• Produce data reports to aid strategic planning and performance monitoring.
• Facilitate committee meetings, prepare agendas and record accurate minutes.

Required profile

• Proven end‑to‑end experience delivering large‑scale events or projects.
• Strong track record of budget management and value optimisation.
• Excellent relationship‑building skills with diverse stakeholders.
• Confident communicator able to engage at all organisational levels.
• Self‑starter with solid problem‑solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel regularly, including overnight stays.
