Senior Protection & Control Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an innovative Senior Protection & Control Design Engineer to join our design team in Basingstoke. You will lead the detailed design and procurement of protection and control systems for substation projects across both distribution and transmission networks.

Key responsibilities

• Develop detailed plant and equipment specifications and functional specifications for protection and control systems.
• Create scheme drawings, electro‑technical schematics and wiring diagrams for high‑voltage substations.
• Manage procurement activities, liaising with manufacturers and suppliers to order plant to client specifications.
• Support tendering processes and provide technical guidance on proposed schemes.
• Coordinate with internal and external design teams, consultants and manufacturers to ensure design compatibility and timely delivery.
• Prepare site layouts and multi‑stage construction drawings for large electrical infrastructure projects.

Required profile

• Proven experience in substation design and protection/control engineering.
• Strong understanding of high‑voltage plant, switchgear and transformer specifications.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation and drawings.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with clients, suppliers and design consultants.
