Senior Publisher – Open Access Life Sciences Journals

About the role

The BMC Academic Journals group supports researchers in communicating discoveries. We are seeking a Senior Publisher to manage a portfolio of open‑access life‑sciences journals, primarily in Plant Sciences, reporting to an Executive Publisher.

Key responsibilities

• Drive growth of the journal portfolio by creating and executing annual development plans and exploring business development opportunities.
• Manage annual targets for submissions, publications, transfers and turnaround times.
• Deliver best‑in‑class author experience and engage Editors‑in‑Chief, Editorial Board Members and societies.
• Resolve pre‑ and post‑publication issues such as authorship, scope, ethics and misconduct.
• Analyse data to support strategic decisions and manage contract negotiations using profit & loss knowledge.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in life, biomedical or health sciences or equivalent.
• Solid experience in academic journal publishing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with strong persuasion and influencing abilities.
• Proactive problem‑solving, resilience in a fast‑paced environment and ability to work independently.
• Strong organisational skills, time‑management and willingness to travel occasionally.
