Senior Python Software Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Python Software Engineer to join our R&D team in Bristol. The role focuses on building and maintaining tooling, internal systems and automated pipelines that support reliable, secure and compliant software delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Python‑based applications, databases and ETL pipelines for research and development.
• Implement and support CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, including automated testing, code quality and security scanning.
• Produce and keep technical documentation, ensuring traceability throughout the software lifecycle.
• Contribute to coding standards, architecture decisions and engineering best practices.
• Communicate progress, risks and challenges to engineering leadership.
• Mentor junior team members, conduct code reviews and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• 8+ years of commercial Python development experience on Linux and Windows, including Intel and ARM platforms.
• Proven experience building CI/CD pipelines, preferably with GitLab.
• Strong understanding of software testing methodologies (unit, regression, test planning).
• Hands‑on experience with Agile development, Git, Jira and collaborative workflows.
• Ability to work remotely with monthly site visits to the Bristol office.
