Senior Research Fellow & Head of Organised Crime & Policing

About the role

RUSI is seeking a senior researcher to lead its Organised Crime and Policing (OCP) team. The post combines academic leadership with strategic business development to shape the institute’s agenda on organised crime, policing, and related policy challenges.

Key responsibilities

• Provide vision and strategic direction for the OCP research group, overseeing all projects and outputs.
• Drive business development, secure and grow funding from public and private sources, and manage stakeholder relationships.
• Maintain and enhance the team’s reputation for high‑quality, independent research through rigorous quality assurance and innovative research design.
• Mentor and develop a small team of in‑house researchers, representing OCP at RUSI’s Management Group.
• Champion diversity, equality and inclusion within the research programme and the broader organised‑crime field.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience in organised crime, policing, or security research, with a strong publication record.
• Demonstrated success in obtaining research funding and managing budgets.
• Excellent stakeholder‑engagement skills with experience working with government, NGOs, and the private sector.
• Leadership experience managing small research teams and delivering policy‑relevant outputs.
