Senior Scientific Editor – Cell Reports Medicine

About the role

Cell Reports Medicine, a premium open‑access journal from Cell Press, is looking for a senior scientific editor to shape its editorial direction. The role is open to scientists, physician‑scientists, or clinicians with a PhD, MD, or equivalent who are passionate about translational and clinical research.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, recruit and develop high‑impact translational and clinical manuscripts.
• Manage the peer‑review process, ensuring rigor, fairness and efficiency.
• Select and collaborate with expert reviewers.
• Provide authors with constructive guidance and maintain an excellent author experience.
• Commission and edit reviews, perspectives and other front‑matter content.
• Contribute to the journal’s editorial strategy and its positioning within the Cell Press portfolio.
• Represent the journal at conferences and institutional visits.
• Support digital content creation for the journal homepage and social media.

Required profile

• PhD, MD or equivalent in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline.
• Previous editorial experience (required).
• Broad interest across translational and clinical research, especially immunology, metabolism or AI.
• Strong critical‑thinking and analytical abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an international team.
• Established research networks are preferred for senior candidates.

Required skills

• Experience managing peer‑review workflows.
• Proficiency in scientific writing and editing.
• Familiarity with digital publishing tools and social‑media platforms.
