Senior Security Engineer

About the role

HM Land Registry is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to protect its critical infrastructure and digital services that support land and property ownership across England and Wales. The role sits within the Security Cluster of the IT Operations Practice and works closely with infrastructure, security, and project teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and improve technical security controls across cloud, on‑premise and legacy environments.
• Investigate and resolve complex security incidents and operational issues.
• Identify, assess and mitigate technical security risks and vulnerabilities.
• Develop and maintain security monitoring, vulnerability and threat‑detection tooling.
• Provide technical guidance, assurance and mentoring to operational teams and projects.

Required profile

• Strong experience designing and implementing technical security systems and controls.
• Advanced knowledge of at least three security technologies (e.g., SIEM, Defender, Sentinel, EDR/XDR, Active Directory, Nessus, PAM, AWS IAM, Entra).
• Extensive knowledge of security controls across Windows, Linux, mainframe, AWS or Azure environments.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, including threat analysis and incident response.
• Ability to manage priorities, communicate technical risks clearly and mentor colleagues.
