Senior SEN Caseworker – Lead SEND Officer

About the role

We are partnering with a Local Authority to find a proactive Lead SEN Casework Officer. This senior position will manage a small team and drive improvements in educational outcomes for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The role is offered on a hybrid basis, combining office and remote work.

Key responsibilities

• Line‑manage and supervise a small team of caseworkers, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
• Oversee the full Education, Health and Care (EHC) process – referrals, assessments, and annual reviews.
• Maintain a small personal caseload of SEND children and young people.
• Lead mediation sessions to resolve disputes and support families.
• Monitor and uphold high standards of practice across the team.

Required profile

• Proven experience in a senior casework or similar role within SEND.
• In‑depth knowledge of the Children and Families Act 2014 and related statutory frameworks.
• Strong leadership and people‑management abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a diplomatic approach to sensitive situations.
