Senior Site Ecologist

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Site Ecologist to lead ecological delivery on a high‑profile highways infrastructure project in Thurrock, Essex. The role sits within a fast‑moving construction environment, bridging engineering teams and environmental legislation to embed sustainability throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive ecological management plans.
• Provide pragmatic, cost‑effective ecological advice to construction and operational teams while ensuring legal compliance.
• Build and maintain relationships with design teams, clients, internal stakeholders and regulators.
• Maintain and audit the project’s environmental management system, investigate and report any ecological incidents.
• Coach on‑site staff in applying practical ecological controls and mitigation measures.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of ecological management, mitigation strategies and relevant UK environmental legislation.
• Strong familiarity with environmental management processes on utilities, construction or civil‑engineering sites.
• Good commercial awareness to deliver compliant yet practical ecological solutions.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
