Senior Site Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Site Engineer to join a leading construction business in Cumbria. The role involves overseeing all on‑site engineering activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time and to specification. You will work closely with construction teams, subcontractors and the client to drive successful project outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate all construction and engineering activities across the assigned site.
• Lead, mentor and support junior engineers and technical staff.
• Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and third‑party stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
• Plan and manage site activities, produce rolling three‑week look‑ahead programmes and monitor progress.
• Identify risks, constraints and opportunities, and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure all permits, inductions and approvals are in place before works commence.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Raise and manage Technical Queries (TQs) and ensure design issues are resolved.
• Support temporary works design, installation, maintenance and dismantling.
• Monitor material procurement, stock levels and resource usage, reporting any variations.
• Produce and gain approval for Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Site Engineer or similar role in the construction sector.
• Strong leadership and mentoring abilities.
• Excellent understanding of health and safety, permits and site induction processes.
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Full UK driving licence (preferred).

Required skills

• Interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications.
• Management of Technical Queries (TQs) and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs).
• Construction site coordination and temporary works design.
• Material procurement and resource tracking.
• Risk identification and mitigation.
