Senior Social Worker – Child Protection & Court

About the role

Wakefield Council is looking for an experienced Senior Social Worker to join its Localities – Child Protection & Court team based at Featherstone Town Hall. The role offers a competitive hourly rate and the flexibility of hybrid working while delivering high‑impact safeguarding services.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a complex caseload of child protection and court cases, delivering high‑quality assessments and care plans.
• Prepare robust statements, assessments and present evidence in both public and private law court proceedings.
• Ensure the child’s voice remains central to all interventions and decisions.
• Provide informal mentoring and support to less‑experienced team members.
• Maintain accurate records and meet statutory deadlines.

Required profile

• Recent, direct experience in a fast‑paced statutory Child Protection and/or Court team.
• Qualified social worker with active registration with Social Work England.
• Proven ability to work under pressure, meet tight statutory deadlines and handle complex care proceedings.
• Valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for local patch visits.
