Senior Social Worker – Duty Assessments

About the role

Leeds City Council is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join its Duty Assessments team. Working under the guidance of a Team Manager, you will deliver high‑quality social work services to children, families and carers, ensuring compliance with statutory guidelines and council policies.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a complex caseload, assessing needs and risks for children, families and carers.
• Maintain accurate case notes, produce reports and, when required, give evidence in court.
• Contribute to service development, policy planning and innovative support solutions.
• Supervise students, trainees and support staff, providing guidance and learning opportunities.
• Develop and implement child‑focused service and support plans based on assessed needs.
• Analyse information to monitor ongoing needs and review care plans.
• Apply safeguarding frameworks to investigate and manage risk of significant harm.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with registration on the Social Work England register.
• Extensive experience handling high‑complexity cases and risk assessment.
• Ability to work independently while adhering to council policies and the Code of Practice.
• Strong communication skills for report writing and court testimony.
• Commitment to professional development and supervision of junior staff.
