Senior Social Worker - Family Safeguarding

About the role

Telford & Wrekin Council is seeking a dedicated Senior Social Worker to join their Family Safeguarding Team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive service, making a real difference to children and families while managing complex safeguarding cases.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a diverse and complex caseload within Family Safeguarding.
• Complete assessments, care planning, and interventions to support children and families.
• Assess and manage risk, making informed, evidence‑based decisions.
• Contribute to safeguarding processes and court proceedings where required.
• Apply relevant legislation, policies, and best practice to deliver child‑focused services.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with children, families, and multi‑agency professionals.
• Deliver a range of interventions and review outcomes, adapting plans where necessary.
• Maintain accurate records and produce high‑quality reports, including court documentation.
• Undertake preventative work aimed at reducing risk and strengthening family resilience.
• Support multi‑agency working and contribute to continuous service improvement.

Required profile

• Qualified Social Worker with current Social Work England registration.
• Minimum 3 years post‑qualified experience working within Children’s Services.
• Strong experience in safeguarding, assessments, child protection, and care planning.
• Ability to manage complex caseloads and make sound professional decisions.
• Excellent knowledge of relevant children’s social care legislation, policies, and frameworks.
• Strong communication, assessment, and relationship‑building skills.
• Commitment to continuous professional development.
• Exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975.
• A DBS check may be applicable; applicants must declare any cautions or convictions not protected under current filtering rules.
