About the role
We are looking for a Senior Software Developer to join a high‑performing Agile team delivering large‑scale digital transformation for a critical public sector client. The role focuses on modernising legacy platforms, building cloud‑native services and creating innovative digital experiences.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop and support modern web applications and REST APIs using Java, Spring Boot and React.
- Deliver secure, scalable and maintainable solutions within an OpenShift environment.
- Enhance automation capabilities, case‑management solutions and digital customer journeys.
- Design and integrate APIs using service‑oriented and event‑driven architecture.
- Produce high‑quality, test‑driven code through TDD, pair programming and code reviews.
- Develop accessible, responsive user interfaces with React, Next.js, JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Create and maintain automated UI tests using Playwright.
- Support CI/CD pipelines, application monitoring, troubleshooting and production support.
- Collaborate within Agile (Kanban) teams, contributing to technical design and continuous improvement.
- Coach and mentor colleagues while promoting engineering best practices.
Required profile
- Strong commercial experience with Java 17/21, Spring Boot, Spring Security and OAuth2.
- Proven expertise in React, Next.js, JavaScript/TypeScript and modern front‑end development.
- Hands‑on experience with OpenShift, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL, Jenkins and GitLab CI/CD.
- Demonstrated ability to design APIs, event‑driven architectures and cloud‑native applications.
- Solid understanding of DevOps, observability tools such as Grafana and Kibana, and software quality practices.
- Experience modernising legacy systems and delivering software in Agile environments.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and problem‑solving skills.

What we offer
- Rate of £450 per day (outside IR35)
- Initial 6‑month contract with possible extensions
- Mostly remote work with occasional onsite days in Edinburgh or Glasgow
