Senior Software Engineer – Java & JavaScript

About the role

Do you enjoy designing and developing scalable, high‑performance applications using Java and JavaScript? You will join the Identity & Access Management team that owns the authentication and authorisation infrastructure for Elsevier’s global product suite, building a highly available identity platform on AWS ECS and EKS.

Key responsibilities

• Interface with technical personnel to finalize requirements.
• Write and review detailed specifications for complex system components.
• Complete complex bug fixes.
• Implement and guide continuous integration, delivery, and deployment practices.
• Identify operational requirements for logging, instrumentation, and alerting.
• Collaborate with development teams to translate requirements into software designs.
• Enforce development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
• Operate in Agile, Waterfall and other development environments while coordinating with stakeholders.
• Resolve intermediate technical issues and support pair programming.
• Mentor junior developers on methodologies and optimisation techniques.

Required profile

• Knowledge of software development methodologies (Agile, Waterfall).
• Intermediate proficiency with data manipulation languages and optimisation techniques.
• Understanding of normalized and dimensional data modelling principles.
• Experience with multiple data storage subsystems.
• Proficient in Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, Node.js, React, XML, SQL, Windows and Unix.
• Experience with Keycloak, Auth0 or similar identity providers.
• Strong research skills and familiarity with industry best practices.
• Good oral and written communication abilities.
