Senior Specialist, Europe Controllers

About the role

The Senior Specialist, Europe Controllers will join Mastercard’s Europe Finance division, reporting to the Manager of the Europe Controllers Group. The role ensures timely and accurate accounting treatment of all customer business agreements in line with Mastercard policies and US GAAP, while supporting pricing implementation projects and cross‑functional initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide complex accounting advice, challenge and validate accounting treatments, and communicate guidance to Regional Finance teams.
• Influence contract drafting to ensure verbiage enables proper accounting and optimal operational implementation.
• Liaise with Billing Services and business owners on pricing implementation projects, reviewing requirements and test results.
• Perform manual billing calculations for Pan‑European fees, set up automatic rebates and customer‑specific rates in the billing system.
• Support creation and updates of rebate calculation models and respond to internal and external billing queries.
• Manage the relationship with external provider (KPMG) for branch local reporting compliance, delivering GAAP figures to tax teams and authorities.
• Champion adoption of AI and automation technologies across Controllers processes to drive efficiency and stronger governance.

Required profile

• University degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Qualified Accountant preferred, though not essential for the right candidate.
• Experience working in large matrix organisations and liaising with external auditors.
• Proven ability to assess and improve operational and financial control implementation.
• Results‑driven, flexible and able to work efficiently under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail and a collaborative team mindset.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of Excel.
• Experience with Oracle.
• Familiarity with Hyperion.
