Senior Structural Engineer – Bridges & Asset Management

About the role

Amey is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to lead a structural inspection team responsible for the risk‑based maintenance of highway structures owned by Staffordshire County Council. Working from our Stafford Design Hub, you will collaborate with a range of infrastructure owners to ensure technical compliance and optimise road space.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a team conducting inspections of bridges, dams and specialist structures.
• Develop and maintain a prioritised, risk‑based maintenance programme for over 1,200 assets.
• Coordinate with rail, national highway, canal, river and private developers to ensure third‑party structures meet technical standards.
• Provide technical guidance, review designs and assess maintenance strategies.
• Support the delivery of new bridge designs, replacements and multimillion‑pound infrastructure schemes.

Required profile

• Chartered civil or structural engineer (or working towards chartership).
• Proven experience in bridge assessment, design and maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and review the technical work of others.
• Strong communication skills for multi‑disciplinary collaboration.
