Senior Structural Fire Engineer – Hybrid (Cornwall & Remote)

About the role

UBT is seeking a Chartered Senior Structural Fire Engineer to lead fire resistance assessments and performance‑based fire engineering on complex UK construction projects. The role combines advanced fire engineering with practical structural design, offering a hybrid working model based in Cornwall with remote flexibility.

Key responsibilities

• Lead structural fire resistance assessments in line with Eurocodes and UK fire safety standards.
• Develop and review performance‑based fire engineering strategies for commercial, residential and industrial developments.
• Perform structural design calculations for steel, concrete and masonry under ambient and elevated temperature conditions.
• Design and assess structural connections and fixing systems for both normal and fire‑exposed scenarios.
• Provide technical guidance on fire protection requirements and structural fire performance.
• Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, regulators and testing laboratories to deliver buildable solutions.
• Support technical approvals, product assessments and preparation of technical documentation.
• Manage structural fire testing programmes, including furnace testing.

Required profile

• Chartered Structural Fire Engineer with several years of experience in fire engineering and structural design.
• Proven ability to work on multi‑disciplinary teams and influence project outcomes.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills applied to both ambient and fire‑exposed conditions.

Required skills

• Eurocode fire design and UK fire safety standards.
• Performance‑based fire engineering methodology.
