Senior Support Worker – Children’s Residential Home

About the role
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Support Worker to join a children’s residential home in Thornton Heath. You will work with young people aged 11‑17 who have emotional and behavioural needs linked to trauma, delivering high‑quality, trauma‑informed care while leading shifts and mentoring staff.
Key responsibilities
- Lead shifts and support the day‑to‑day running of the home.
- Provide child‑centred care in line with individual care plans.
- Build trusting relationships using trauma‑informed approaches.
- Safeguard young people and respond to concerns, incidents and risks.
- Support education, independence skills, health and emotional wellbeing.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and care documentation.
- Collaborate with social workers, families and external professionals.
- Mentor junior team members and promote a safe, positive environment.
- Administer medication where trained and authorised.
Required profile
- Passionate about improving the lives of young people.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in residential child care or a similar setting.
- Working towards or holding a Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
- Experience supporting young people with trauma, attachment difficulties and complex emotional or behavioural needs.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Excellent communication, organisational and record‑keeping skills.
- Flexible to work a rota including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep‑ins.
Required skills
- Medication administration (where trained).
