Senior Support Worker – Residential Children’s Services

About the role

The Senior Support Worker will help deliver high‑quality residential childcare, ensuring a safe, nurturing and educational environment for children in our care. You will lead a team of support workers, oversee daily operations and contribute to each child's care plan.

Key responsibilities

• Provide daily supervision, direction and 1‑to‑1 coaching for support workers.
• Manage rota, ensure shift coverage and address performance issues.
• Contribute to individual care plans, risk assessments and maintain accurate daily logs.
• Safeguard children, advocate for their wishes and support their emotional wellbeing.
• Assist with therapeutic support, recognising trauma and adverse childhood experiences.
• Maintain a clean, safe home environment and prepare nutritious meals.
• Promote independence by teaching practical life‑skills.
• Transport young people to education, activities and appointments.
• Participate in “sleep‑in” duties and flexible working hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months experience in a residential children’s home or similar setting.
• Proven ability to manage conflict and challenging behaviour.
• Strong record‑keeping, planning and prioritisation skills.
• High level of applied literacy and numeracy.
• Capability to supervise and develop junior staff.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep‑ins.
• Valid UK driving licence.
