Senior Technical Manager

About the role

First Military Recruitment, in partnership with an events management business, is seeking a Senior Technical Manager to lead technical delivery for complex live events across its portfolio. The role combines technical expertise with leadership, ensuring seamless event production and strong relationships with venue teams.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, manage and oversee technical, scenic and LED installations, including rigging, for live events and ensure safe removal.
• Produce technical schematics, cable calls and floor plans, and advise Account and Technical Managers on complex technical elements.
• Lead and coordinate multiple Technical Managers on large multi‑area events, taking overall responsibility for technical production.
• Calculate crew, logistics and vehicle requirements in collaboration with Operations.
• Develop and deliver health and safety documentation and training programmes for the technical team.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a live‑event AV technician progressing to technical/project manager, either in an AV company, venue or as a freelancer.
• Proven end‑to‑end technical project management of live events, including power, cable runs and health‑and‑safety compliance.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot, problem‑solve under pressure and communicate clearly with clients and internal teams.

Required skills

• Audio‑visual equipment operation and integration for corporate/exhibition events.
• Virtual‑event streaming platforms and associated technologies.
• Rigging and LED installation expertise.
• Technical schematics, cable calls and floor‑plan creation.
• CAD proficiency (Vectorworks or equivalent).
• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
