Senior Technology Design Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Technology Design Engineer to lead the delivery and assurance of highways technology solutions across major infrastructure programmes. You will act as the technical authority, owning design outputs from concept through to implementation and ensuring they are compliant, integrated and future‑ready.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of complex technology design packages (ITS, communications, power) from concept to implementation.
• Own design outputs, guaranteeing they are buildable, maintainable and delivered right‑first‑time.
• Act as technical authority within design assurance, leading reviews, checks and gateway approvals.
• Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways and industry standards while managing technical risk.
• Provide SME leadership across ITS, communications networks and smart infrastructure systems.
• Drive multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical and systems teams.
• Communicate technical risks and solutions clearly to clients and stakeholders.

Required profile

• HNC/Degree‑qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering or equivalent.
• Experienced highways technology engineer with strong ITS expertise.
• Confident leading design delivery and technical assurance activities.
• Knowledgeable in National Highways standards (e.g., DMRB) and governance frameworks.
• Comfortable acting as a technical authority on complex projects.
• Strong leader capable of mentoring and developing engineers.
