Senior Underwriter – Existing Business Property & Liability

About the role

This senior underwriting position focuses on renewals for existing business in property and liability lines. You will own portfolio performance, guide pricing decisions, and mentor junior underwriters within a leading UK insurer based in Manchester.

Key responsibilities

• Manage renewal portfolios with full authority, assessing risk, setting pricing and terms, and monitoring profitability.
• Develop and maintain strategic broker relationships, leading senior‑level negotiations and acting as a trusted advisor.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior underwriters, delivering training and knowledge sharing.
• Analyse portfolio data and market trends to shape strategy and support senior leadership in positioning the business.

Required profile

• Extensive P&L underwriting experience in commercial or mid‑market environments with a proven record of profitable portfolio management.
• Strong relationship‑building and negotiation skills, comfortable leading senior broker discussions.
• Experience mentoring or developing teams and solid understanding of FCA compliance and regulatory frameworks.
