Senior Underwriter

About the role

Pen Underwriting is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join its Risk Managed Commercial team in Leeds. You will be responsible for underwriting and servicing a mix of new and renewal accounts, helping to shape innovative insurance solutions while supporting the growth of the portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and grow a portfolio of renewal accounts, addressing rating and adjustment enquiries from clients.
• Develop new business opportunities and ensure positive outcomes for clients, brokers and insurers.
• Evaluate risks, handle technical claim cover requests and liaise with brokers, insurers and internal teams.
• Review and approve referrals from Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters within delegated authority.
• Mentor and train junior team members, sharing expertise and best practices.
• Deepen understanding of Pen’s coverage offerings and analyse data to produce statistics.

Required profile

• CII/Dip CII qualification or equivalent, with A‑Level education or similar.
• Proven underwriting experience in servicing accounts and handling claim queries.
• Strong grasp of risk exposure, able to set acceptance criteria and classify risks in complex situations.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and attention‑to‑detail skills.
