Senior Underwriter – Professional Indemnity (Direct & Digital)

About the role

Avencia Consulting is partnering with a leading insurer to hire a Senior Underwriter for its Direct & Digital business. You will shape underwriting decisions, drive portfolio performance and support product development while upholding strong underwriting discipline and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Apply senior underwriting authority to Professional Indemnity risks within the Direct business.
• Assess referrals that fall outside standard automated underwriting rules.
• Monitor portfolio performance metrics such as conversion, loss ratio and trading results.
• Collaborate with Product and Digital teams to refine underwriting rules, referral pathways and customer journeys.
• Support new product development and enhancements to existing offerings.
• Maintain up‑to‑date underwriting governance, controls and technical documentation.
• Contribute to projects focused on digital capability, automation and operational improvements.

Required profile

• Proven experience underwriting Professional Indemnity risks, preferably within an insurer, MGA or commercial broking environment.
• Strong technical knowledge of Professional Indemnity, with exposure to Directors & Officers (D&O) risks considered an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to make technical risk decisions and handle complex referrals.
• Understanding of underwriting governance, risk appetite and portfolio analysis.
• Excellent stakeholder management and collaborative approach.
• Interest in how technology, automation and digital trading are reshaping the insurance market.
