Senior UX Designer – Public Sector (Newcastle)

About the role

We are looking for a senior UX Designer to join a specialised project team delivering a major UK digital government initiative. Based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, you will work within an Innovation & Automation Hub for a public‑sector body, combining strategic thinking with hands‑on design.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design decisions, mentor junior designers and champion UX best practices across multiple squads.
• Develop end‑to‑end user experience strategies that align with complex project goals and continuously improve design standards.
• Identify user friction points and propose innovative, accessible, and scalable solutions.
• Collaborate closely with Product Owners, User Researchers, UI Designers and Engineers to integrate user‑first elements.

Required profile

• Proven track record as a Senior, Lead or Principal UX Designer on large‑scale service design systems.
• Experience working on public‑sector or government digital projects.
• Eligibility for Security Clearance (or existing clearance).
