Senior/Associate Mechanical Engineer – Built Asset Consultancy

About the role

Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) is expanding its MEP design team and seeks a proactive Senior or Associate Mechanical Engineer to support the delivery of mechanical building services design and verification across a wide range of schemes. The role covers day‑to‑day mechanical engineering design from feasibility through detailed design and construction, working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues and clients.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver mechanical engineering design for building services projects, including heating, ventilation, cooling and domestic water systems.
• Prepare and review calculations, drawings and specifications across concept, developed and technical design stages.
• Coordinate mechanical services with architectural, structural, electrical and sustainability disciplines.
• Conduct site surveys, verify existing installations and provide construction monitoring and clerk‑of‑works duties.
• Support junior and senior engineers, contributing to their career development and chartership pathway.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering, ideally progressing towards CIBSE or IMechE registration.
• Proven experience delivering mechanical designs within a consultancy or design‑and‑build environment.
• Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, CIBSE guides and industry standards.
• Organised, detail‑oriented and able to manage multiple deadlines and team members.

Required skills

• Proficiency with design tools such as Revit, AutoCAD and IES.
• Ability to produce mechanical calculations, specifications and coordinated drawings.
• Understanding of heating, ventilation, cooling, domestic water and BMS systems.
