Sensory Support Worker – Specialist SEN School (Poole)

About the role

We are seeking compassionate and patient individuals to join a specialist SEN school in Poole, supporting pupils aged 2‑19 with complex needs. As a Sensory Support Worker you will help children regulate sensory input, develop communication skills and feel safe in the learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 or small‑group sensory support using tailored strategies, visual aids and communication tools.
• Assist pupils with personal care and medical routines, with training provided.
• Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists and the wider support team.
• Promote emotional wellbeing, independence and positive behaviour.
• Respond calmly to sensory overload, distress or routine changes.
• Help create sensory‑friendly learning spaces and activities.

Required profile

• Experience supporting children or young people with SEN or complex needs.
• Understanding of autism, sensory processing difficulties, communication differences or PMLD.
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
• Strong communication, empathy and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Right to work in the UK and willingness to obtain an enhanced DBS.
