Service Manager – Construction Machinery

About the role

The Service Manager will lead the service operations for a construction company based in Portsmouth, overseeing maintenance, repair and after‑sales support for heavy plant and construction equipment. You will be responsible for ensuring high customer satisfaction while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, organise and supervise all service, repair and maintenance activities for heavy plant and construction equipment.
• Coordinate service schedules, workforce allocation and resource planning to maximise efficiency.
• Monitor service performance, drive continuous improvement and ensure timely completion of warranty work and contracts.
• Oversee workshop and field service activities, managing both on‑site and mobile teams.
• Lead, mentor and develop technicians, supervisors and support staff, conducting performance reviews and identifying training needs.
• Act as the primary client contact for service matters, maintaining strong relationships and resolving issues promptly.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in service management within heavy plant, construction or agricultural machinery.
• Proven track record of leading teams and managing service operations.
• Strong knowledge of heavy plant maintenance practices, diagnostic processes and safety regulations.
• Experience managing workshop and mobile field service environments.
• Familiarity with service management software and project management tools.
