Sheltered Housing Officer

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Sheltered Housing Officer to join our team in Newham. The role involves providing practical and emotional support to older and vulnerable residents, helping them maintain independence while ensuring their safety and wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular welfare visits and wellbeing checks with residents.
• Update resident information using Telecare and housing management systems.
• Assist residents with benefit applications, budgeting and access to support services.
• Inspect tenanted and void properties, reporting repairs or tenancy breaches.
• Respond to emergency alarms and coordinate appropriate assistance.
• Develop and review support plans, risk assessments and evacuation procedures.
• Promote health and safety compliance, including fire safety.
• Organise social activities and community events to encourage resident engagement.
• Build partnerships with health professionals, social care teams and community organisations.
• Maintain cleanliness and security of communal areas.

Required profile

• Resilient and committed to delivering excellent customer service.
• Experience working in sheltered or supported housing environments.
• Experience supporting vulnerable adults, older people or individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to work independently and adapt flexibly to service needs.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Telecare and housing management software.
• Knowledge of benefit systems and financial wellbeing support.
• Understanding of health and safety and fire safety procedures.

• Hourly rate of £18.92 (PAYE) or £24.63 (Umbrella) with a 3‑month initial contract.
