Shift Engineer

About the role

Join a well‑established manufacturing site in Somerset as a Shift Engineer. You will work a 4‑on‑4‑off pattern (2 days, 2 nights, 4 off) to keep production equipment running efficiently and support both planned and reactive maintenance.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance on production machinery and site services.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, diagnose faults and minimise production disruption.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults on 3‑phase systems, motors, control panels, relays, contactors and inverters/VSDs.
• Support basic PLC fault finding and work with automated production equipment.
• Perform mechanical tasks such as bearing, chain, belt, gearbox, pump and seal maintenance.
• Record all maintenance activity accurately in the site maintenance system.
• Collaborate with production teams to prioritise and resolve engineering issues.
• Maintain high health‑and‑safety standards and follow site procedures.
• Contribute ideas to improvement projects that increase plant reliability and performance.

Required profile

• A recognised engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent).
• Experience as a Maintenance Engineer or Shift Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands‑on experience with production machinery and automated equipment.
• Good working knowledge of both electrical and mechanical maintenance.
• Proactive attitude and ability to work effectively within a shift team.
